Reunification Palace

By coincidence we visited the palace on the birthday of Ho Chi Minh.

by Bob Kerstetter

The Reunification Palace located in downtown Ho Chi Minh City served as the residence of the leaders of the Saigon government from 1966 to 1975. Its capture in April 1975 essentially ended the Vietnam War, known in Vietnam as the American War.

By coincidence we visited the palace on the birthday of Ho Chi Minh.

Our tour guide spoke very good English and clearly presented her information about the palace and the final weeks of the war.

We also met some war veterans from the North Vietnam army. They were kind, shook our hands and allowed us to take their photos next to the tanks used to capture the palace in 1975.
